Global warming and allergies
Whether or not you personally agree with the overwhelming majority of the world's scientists about the dangers of global warming, this is, as the saying goes, "a problem that's nothing to sneeze about!" On the other hand, the fact is, you -- and millions of other people -- are sneezing more because of global warming. A wonderful article in the September 2011 issue of Health magazine explains why: "Spring allergies now start sooner and fall allergies end later, thanks to global warming...We're using more and more carbon-based fuels, generating greenhouse gases...that trap heat from the sun in our atmosphere. This makes temperatures rise, prompting plants and trees to flower -- and release pollen -- earlier each spring; in the fall, they delay the death of ragweed plants from frost, extending the pollen season....they also boost the amount of pollen each plant generates...making pollen more potent, too...Increasingly balmy temperatures mean more moisture in the air, which creates mold." The article goes on to point out our excessive use of "antibacterial everything" products, which lowers our immune system's ability to defend us. It's worth picking up a copy of that issue of Health magazine to read the article. It's also worth remembering that, before you visit your pharmacy for any prescription or over-the-counter allergy medication, you should go to the website MyRxCoupons.com to find free money-saving coupons that you can print from your computer to save on the cost of that medication. It's the smart way that millions of American families are saving hundreds, even thousands, of dollars a year on the cost of their health care.
